Comprehensive Bill Payment Guide

Last Updated: December 2025

⚠️ Crucial First Step: Identify Your Bill
Medical bills look similar but go to different places. Look at the top logo of your paper bill:
  • Quest Diagnostics: Has the green "Quest" logo. Use Section 1.
  • ePayItOnline: Usually from a local doctor, radiologist, or anesthesia group. It will explicitly say "Pay online at www.epayitonline.com". Use Section 2.

1. Quest Diagnostics

Quest is a national lab network. You are paying them directly for blood work or tests ordered by your doctor.

A. Understanding Your Quest Bill

Before paying, it helps to identify the key sections of your invoice:

B. Finding Your Login Details

You strictly need two numbers found on your paper invoice to pay as a guest:

1. Lab Code
A 3-letter code (e.g., MET, TAM, PHI).
Location: Usually near the top right or top center of the bill summary. It indicates which specific lab processed your sample.
2. Invoice Number
A long series of digits (often 8-10 numbers).
Location: Listed clearly under "Invoice #" or "Bill #". Do not use the "Account Number" if an "Invoice Number" is available.

C. Payment Methods

  1. Online (Guest Pay):
Go to billing.questdiagnostics.com. Enter the Lab Code and Invoice number. You do not need to create a password.
💡 Tip: If you are paying for a family member, you do not need their login. Guest pay only requires the bill details.
  2. Online (MyQuest Account):
Log in to your MyQuest portal and click "Billing".
Benefits: View payment history, see past results, and update insurance info for future visits.
  3. By Phone:
Call the number listed on your invoice. Have your invoice number ready. The automated system accepts credit/debit cards 24/7.
  4. By Mail:
Send a check/money order to the address listed on the bottom tear-off slip of your bill.
Warning: Write your Invoice Number on the check memo line to ensure it is credited to the correct account.

D. Financial Assistance & Payment Plans

If you cannot pay the full amount, Quest offers two main programs:

2. ePayItOnline (DMA)

This is a third-party payment portal used by thousands of independent healthcare providers (radiologists, hip institutes, local clinics). The company behind it is Data Media Associates (DMA).

A. Finding Your Login Details

You cannot pay without the physical bill. Look for the "Easy Way To Pay" box, usually in the lower right corner of the statement.

1. Code ID
A unique identifier for your specific bill.
Example: 1234567 (Often 7 digits)
2. Access #
This acts as your password/security key.
Example: 5566-7788 (Usually hyphenated)

B. Detailed Payment Steps

  1. Visit the Portal: Type www.epayitonline.com into your browser.
⚠️ Note: Ensure you do not click on "Sponsored" ads in Google results. Type the URL directly into the address bar.
  2. Login: Enter the Code ID and Access # exactly as they appear. Case sensitivity usually doesn't apply, but be careful with O vs 0.
  3. Verify Provider: Once logged in, the top of the screen will show the name of the doctor you are paying (e.g., "Main Street Radiology"). Verify this matches your visit.
  4. Update Info (Optional): The portal often allows you to update your address or insurance info if the claim was rejected due to bad data.
  5. Pay: They accept Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover, and most HSA/FSA cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my bill say "DMA" instead of my doctor's name? +
DMA (Data Media Associates) is the company that processes payments for ePayItOnline. It is common for the charge to appear as DMA or "Data Media" on your bank statement. Keep your receipt to reconcile it with your doctor's bill later.
I lost my bill. Can I look up my Code ID online? +
No. For security reasons, the ePayItOnline portal does not have a "lookup" feature. You must call the doctor's office where you received treatment to ask for your Code ID or pay over the phone.
Why did I receive a bill if I have insurance? +
Common reasons include:
  • Deductible: You haven't met your annual deductible yet.
  • Co-pay: A fixed amount you owe for the visit.
  • Denied Claim: Insurance may have denied the specific test as "not medically necessary" or "experimental". Check your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance company for details.
  • Missing Info: The doctor may have had old insurance information on file.
Can I split my payment across two cards? +
Most online portals (both Quest and ePayItOnline) require the full specific transaction to be on one card. However, you can often make a partial payment on one card, log out, and then log back in later to pay the remainder with a different card.
Can I use my HSA or FSA card? +
Yes, both Quest Diagnostics and ePayItOnline accept Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards, provided they have a Visa/MasterCard logo. Ensure you have sufficient funds to cover the exact amount, or the transaction will be declined.
